6063 Aluminum Alloy: This is the most popular choice for heat sinks. It offers an optimal combination of thermal conductivity (approximately 200–220 W/m·K), good extrudability, and surface finish. It is easily anodized, which enhances corrosion resistance and allows for aesthetic coloring.
6061 Aluminum Alloy: Slightly stronger than 6063, with good thermal conductivity (about 170–190 W/m·K). It is often selected for heat sinks in structural or high-stress environments, though it is slightly less extrudable than 6063.
Pure Aluminum (1000 series): Offers higher thermal conductivity (up to 237 W/m·K) but is softer and less common for complex extrusions. It may be used in specialized high-conductivity applications.
